Today, a small business customer was unable to use a USB device on his computer. Upon plugging the device into any USB port, an error message, "Unknown USB Device” displayed. The solution below fixed the problem quickly.
Issue: USB device not recognized
System: Windows XP Professional
Error Code: “Unknown USB Device”
Solution:
· Open Device Manager. Click Start, right-click on My Computer, select Properties, select the Hardware tab, and select Device Manager.
· If Enhanced USB Host Controller is displayed, right-click it and select Disable.
· Do this for each instance of Enhanced USB Host Controller
· The unrecognized USB device should now become recognized and work properly.
