Today's IT components are faster than ever – but what about yours? Here are some speed-boosting tips from our Austin IT support team:

Update (or right-size) your software. Old software applications can run slowly compared to their optimized successors, so if your apps aren't updating themselves automatically, find out which ones have updates available. On the other hand, don't upgrade to a massive new operating system until we've determined that your current hardware can run it smoothly.

Kill those viruses. Viruses, adware and other forms of malware can clog up workstation speeds until you feel like you're trying to run a sprint in molasses. Our Austin IT managed services techs can find and remove those “bugs” and add newer, stronger anti-virus protections to your IT system.

Streamline your online operations. Are you asking more from a limited amount of bandwidth than that bandwidth can easily deliver? Try adjusting some of your settings. If you're struggling with Internet Explorer, for instance, clean your browser's Internet temporary-file cache size and disable any useless browser add-ons that might be slowing things down.

Add memory. If keeping those multiple tabs open all the time is getting to be a pain, maybe it's time to increase your workstations' RAM instead. Computers that max out their RAM memory start leaning on the hard drive for extra memory, slowing operations to a crawl. We can evaluate your onboard memory and recommend upgrades as needed.

Switch to solid-state drives. Good old hard drives may give you greater storage capacity at lower cost, but if speed is what you need first and foremost, then consider making a few strategic upgrades to solid-state drives.
